Miami Innovation District
Miami, FL
Project Manager / Landscape Architect - with West 8
West 8 collaborated with SHoP Architects to proposed a new special-use district for future growth of creative technology industries in the city of Miami. Conceived as an urban campus, an integrated complex of mutually-supportive programs include public amenities, outdoor spaces for community and campus gathering, performance and exhibition zones, and a variety of housing designed specifically for the demographic envisioned to work and live within this neighbourhood.
The design of Miami Innovation District’s (MID) public spaces are a critical component of the day-to-day vitality, identity, and experience of the District. A hierarchy of streets were established as a fundamental framework to the more interstitial spaces. This framework is layered with distinct character and identity that range in scale, materiality and function, extending its reach beyond the confines of the district proper; simultaneously responding to three anticipated user groups - day-to-day workers, residential owners, and event-seekers.
Early ideations were conceived in sketch form and brought life to the districts spaces, while hybrid CAD illustrative drawings communicated the overlying framework of the project. Ultimately, high-quality renderings were produced for codifying the project deliverables. My hand sketches were adopted and personalized by SHoP Architects on this and future projects.
