South East False Creek (2010 Olympic) Village Plaza
Vancouver, BC, Canada
Project Manager / Senior Landscape Architect - with Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg
This flexible public space is centrally located in a model sustainable village at the waterfront at the edge of South False Creek, and served as the focus of celebrations for the Athletes Village at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Designed for daily flexible use as well as larger events, the site's rich industrial history informed the overall two and three-dimensional layout and arrangement of the site's features. Symbolic elements including innovative furnishings permit fixed seating arrangements, at the same time encouraging the sites' continued use for larger public events. Topographical change was utilized to convey stormwater, provide passive irrigation, and encourage play. The design integrated a major public art installation.
Personally involved in the interview process, our team was the successful proponent against strong international competition. As the Prime Consultant and Project Manager I managed a large team of consultants from concept through construction administration.
